STORY, STYLE AND ATMOSPHERE
Since 1906 through the turmoil of the World Wars and over the demolition threat to a boutique hotel & restaurant designed for You. Read the amazing story of the building!
“Life’s good here at De Gamlas Hem. We all have our own rooms, where we can make a home of our own.” (A previous old resident).
De Gamlas Hem Hotel & Restaurant is fully renovated, 17 room boutique hotel in a heritage protected building near the centre of Oulu. As early as in 1906, the building was used to house, care for, and provide food for elderly upper-class women from Oulu. It was a private retirement home. Swedish fighter pilots were also housed in the building during the World War II. Today, we welcome you to this wooden Art Nouveau villa to enjoy some peace, quiet and delicious food among the beautiful ceramic tiled stoves and log walls. De Gamlas Hem = “Home for the Elderly” in Swedish.
We will be closed for Midsummer holidays from 21 June (from 12.00 noon) to 24 June (10.30). Have a wonderful midsummer everyone!
